Sensory Awareness<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

We all have five senses<\/p>\n

At least that\u2019s what they say<\/p>\n

They tell you in school<\/p>\n

You use all every day<\/p>\n

Sight for your eyes and your nose handles smell<\/p>\n

Your ears let you hear, and your mouth tastes so well<\/p>\n

Whole body claims touch. That all. But they lied<\/p>\n

I claim there are more. Here\u2019s a list. You decide.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There are things to accomplish. There are things you must do.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s your sense of purpose that will carry you through.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Your house is on fire or you just cut your hand<\/p>\n

It\u2019s your sense of urgency. Just don\u2019t sit there and stand<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There\u2019s a mountain to climb. There\u2019s a river to ford.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s your sense of adventure. Go pull that ripcord<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You are clever and witty. You can tell a good joke.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s your good sense of humor. Makes you one happy bloke<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You fight for what\u2019s right. You protect those in need.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s your sense of duty. Such an honorable breed<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You turn in when due. You catch the last train<\/p>\n

It\u2019s your good sense of timing. That\u2019s using your brain.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You flow with the music. You clap to the beat<\/p>\n

Your good sense of rhythm is always a treat<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Those are a few – of the senses I share<\/p>\n

Though the one we use most,<\/p>\n

has become rather rare<\/p>\n

For you see it\u2019s quite common,<\/p>\n

And here I must tell<\/p>\n

It takes thinking, good judgement, to use it quite well<\/p>\n

Common Sense\u2019s what they call it.<\/p>\n

They are many who choose<\/p>\n

Not to use it at all. And for that we might lose.<\/p>\n

What we\u2019ve built, what we have, all the freedoms we need<\/p>\n

To sustain our existence, all because of their greed<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So schools hear my warning. Don\u2019t teach our kids wrong<\/p>\n

Start with listening and thinking, That shouldn\u2019t take long.<\/p>\n

Then the five senses, just to mention a few.<\/p>\n

Use them all with each other; get a logical view<\/p>\n

Then people can preach, they can put up a fight<\/p>\n

But we\u2019ll use learned thought to determine what\u2019s right<\/p>\n

\u201cCommon sense is not so common,\u201d Voltaire once said.<\/p>\n
