Today’s writer’s playshop prompt was Merrymaking. We were given 20 words to choose from to prompt us. We could use as many as we wanted. I used all of them. All the words used are in italics<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Another Lesson Learned?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

If there is one thing I know<\/span>, it’s when someone is trying to\u00a0flummox<\/em> me. At least, I thought I did until one day, I got hit with a\u00a0doozy<\/em>. Well, I shouldn\u2019t say one day;<\/span>\u00a0it happens more often than that. But you all probably know that.<\/span><\/p>\n

This particular one was a big one. A friend of mine came over to my house with this <\/span>thingamajig<\/span><\/i> and gave me all this <\/span>gobbledygook<\/span><\/i> about how he could use it to <\/span>razzle-dazzle<\/span><\/i> some people into giving us money.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

My initial response was, \u201c<\/span>Balderdash<\/span><\/i>!\u201d I had doubts about his <\/span>tomfoolery<\/span><\/i>. But he was my best friend, and even though he was quite a <\/span>whippersnapper<\/span><\/i>, I didn\u2019t want to raise a big <\/span>kerfuffle<\/span><\/i>, so I let him <\/span>waddle<\/span><\/i> his way through this <\/span>malarkey<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you know anything about me and my friend, you have already guessed his name. From experience, I should have listened to my logical brain and <\/span>skedaddle<\/span><\/i>, but as usual, I played along and <\/span>lollygagged<\/span><\/i> along with his plan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ronald\u2019s plan was to sell\u00a0<\/span>battery-operated self-heating\u00a0flapjacks<\/em>\u00a0to any\u00a0nincompoop<\/em> <\/span>willing to buy them.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHow do you eat a battery-operated flapjack?\u201d I questioned.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s the gimmick,\u201d he said. \u201cWe make some real flapjacks, and you switch them with the battery-operated one while I distract the buyer.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

I was <\/span>flabbergasted<\/span><\/i>. I couldn\u2019t imagine the <\/span>hullabaloo<\/span><\/i> that would occur should we try this. But instead of saying what I felt and hurting his feelings, after all, he was my friend, I kept my mouth shut. This time I would let him get caught and I\u2019d just <\/span>dawdle<\/span><\/i> around and let him get in trouble with his <\/span>merrymaking<\/span><\/i>. In my head, I cried out, \u201c<\/span>Fiddle-Dee-Dee<\/span><\/i>.\u201d Finally, I\u2019ll come out on top.<\/span><\/p>\n

Well, if you know Ronald, you know it didn\u2019t work out that way. He managed to find an excuse to leave just as the first person realized what was going on. And who was there, holding the, well, flapjack as it was? When will I ever learn?<\/span><\/p>\n
